I was lucky to spend several weeks in Washington State visiting family, doing a help exchange south of Seattle, and roaming around with a rental car. I checked off a lot of firsts including visiting Mount Rainier National Park, visiting San Juan Island, seeing orca whales on a sailing tour, and driving onto a ferry.

My relatives graciously hosted me at their home just outside Sequim, where I soaked up the beautiful scenery, and took a few day trips to nearby destinations such as Lake Crescent and Port Townsend.

After saying goodbye to my relatives I spent a few weeks with a HelpX host south of Seattle - technically their address was in Roy but the closest town was Yelm, 10 miles away. In exchange for a few hours of work 6 days per week: mulching, weeding, making jam, cleaning - I got free room and board and a view of Mount Rainier was a short walk away.
My host didn’t have chickens or goats, but her friend a few miles away did, so I got to meet her heard of 30 chickens, a few roosters, and about a dozen goats.
