I had two days to kill before meeting a friend in Luxembourg, so I opened up Google Maps and decided on Basel, a short train ride away from Zürich. It is a mid-size town within walking distance of France and Germany, which came in handy when the local train ticket kiosks refused to print tickets. A short walk to St. Louis, France, got me on the train to my next destination...
Messe Basel // Exhibition Centre
Switzerland: land of long street names
Looking through the Gate of Spalen
Enveloped
Universitaet Basel Botanical Garden
Basel Minster // Gothic Cathedral
The Rhine river as seen from Pfalz lookout point
Looking towards the Rhine from the narrow road by the Basler Papiermühle // Basel Paper Mill
Sitting on the banks of the Rhine, watching the sky roil
Police boat on a mission
Jugendherberge Basel Hostel // A restored factory turned into a gorgeous multi-story minimalist hostel, tucked into winding streets and lush greenery. Seriously one of the coolest hostels I've stayed in, in a great location, but a little pricey.
